Bärwalder See is not only Saxony’s largest water body, but also offers plenty of leisure activities. A 14.3 mile (23 km) long circular tarmac path runs immediately around the lake. Connected to this, measuring about 219 yards (200 m) in length and 6.6 yards (6 m) in width, is an inline skating arena that offers ideal conditions for all skaters.
The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) ‘Bärwalder See’ is located on the lakefront at Boxberg. There, visitors will be provided with answers to all their questions regarding the lake and the region.
Boxberg boasts a pier for water sports enthusiasts, offering optimal conditions for passenger cruises.
The Boxberg lakefront offers a beautiful bathing beach with a separate naturist beach section as well as a dog beach in its natural state. Accommodation, food service establishments and tourist attractions (subject to booking) are also available directly on the lakefront.
The landscape structure ‘OHR’ (EAR) is a must-see when visiting the Boxberg lakefront. This up to 59 foot (18 m) high sculpted hill in the shape of a human ear offers spectacular views of the lake and the Boxberg power plant. It moreover boasts the ‘Theater im OHR’ – an amphitheatre in the ear’s centre. Bärwalder See also offers fishing grounds for those seeking more tranquillity.
