Bärwalder See is not only Saxony’s largest water body, but also offers plenty of leisure activities. A 14.3 mile (23 km) long circular tarmac path runs immediately around the lake. All attractions and sights along the water body are accessible from this fully tarmacked path.
The beach at Uhyster not only offers fine sand, but also a panoramic view of the Boxberg power plant on the opposite shore. It moreover boasts a naturist beach and a dog beach. Refreshments are available on site.
Visitors can try out various water sports. Piers in Klitten, Uhyst/Spree and Boxberg/O.L. provide optimal conditions for passenger cruises.
The game safari park near the lakefront at Uhyst offers attractions on 321 acres (1.3 km2), such as safari tours including feeding of the animals. Some 200 wild animals live in the park, including wapitis, deer, European roe deer and reindeer
Uhyst/Spree furthermore captivates visitors with its historically valuable architecture. The Uhyster Schloss with its gardens is a particular attraction, in addition to the Baroque church, the Schleiferei (grinding shop) and the Adelspädagogium where Prince Hermann von Pückler went to school. The Uhyster Schloss stately home offers an uninterrupted vista across the lake to the Boxberg power plant. Equally worth a visit is the Volkspark, located on an island in the river. Many ponds south of the village invite explorers.
